A police officer from Kirinyaga County revealed the content of a suicide note left behind by a primary school teacher, Wangithi Karuria, before she died by suicide.
Speaking to the press on Saturday, July 9, Mwea West Sub County police boss Wilson Koskei confirmed that Karuria, 56, whose body was found on the same day, had taken her own life.
The officer further divulged that a suicide note was found detailing how she was fed up with life before the fateful day.
She noted that she had amassed a lot of debts in banks and sought her sons’ help in clearing them while sharing her property equally between themselves.
“In the suicide note, Karuria indicated that she was fed up with life. She revealed that she had a lot of debts that should be cleared by her two sons. She also directed her sons to share her property equally,” explained Koskei.
The officer also confirmed that Karuria had spoken to her son who lived about two kilometers away before she went missing.
The son, identified only as Muriithi, told the police that he was shocked when he found his mother missing yet the door of her house was open.
“Muriithi was shocked about his mother going missing, with her phone left in the house and the door open,” the police boss added.
The body of the deceased was first discovered floating in a well by some of her students.
The students later reported the matter to other residents who called the police from Kiamaciri Police Station to the scene. The officers successfully retrieved her body from the well.
Her colleagues at Wakaniu Primary School described the deceased as hardworking and humble person.
