The police officer, Constable Kevin Amwanyi, was eventually transferred over to authorities at Kasarani Police Station.
The victim, Jackline Muthoni passed way in unclear circumstances, and the DCI speculated that she had been murdered. Muthoni had fallen on one of the cars parked next to the apartment.
Officer Amwanyi is alleged to have had an argument with his girlfriend on Friday night July 4, before she fell off the balcony.
Neighbors who responded to the horrific incident, narrated that the officer threatened them with a gun and then took off from the scene.
In a statement recorded by detectives, the officer denied the allegations saying that his girlfriend jumped off the balcony.
Muthoni’s family has denied knowledge of the officer saying he was not a boyfriend to Muthoni, and that they had just met on Thursday July 1.
Having distanced themselves from any knowledge of Kevin Amwanyi, the family of Muthoni are hoping that justice for Muthoni will be delivered swiftly.
This, however, raises questions about whether the relationship between Officer Amwanyi and Muthoni was in fact a legitimate one, given the family’s rejection of the claim that the two were in a relationship.
The case has since been taken over by the homicide department of the DCI.
Amwayi is set to face murder charges in a very touchy case as the officer works for DCI.
The alleged crime happened in an area with a high crime rate in the recent past, with reports of crime in Kasarani increasing in the last months.
