Victor Ouma appeared in court on Tuesday, February 9 before Magistrate Vincent Adet, where he denied the charges.
The prosecution said Ouma appeared at Central Police Station in Mombasa County to secure the release of his friend who had been arrested for flouting Covid-19.
Upon arrival at the station, he pretended to be a police officer, and allegedly lied about working at Buruburu Police station. He was asked to state his service number, which he did.
However, the service number he confidently stated belonged to a police officer that had joined the service about 30 years ago.
What made the officers at the police station realise that something was not adding up was apparent youth when his number appeared to match the profile of an officer in his fifties.
“The accused was asked to state his service number and comfortably stated it as 46084 but the service number could not match his age since it belongs to the team that joined the service around 30 years ago,†stated the document.
The accused was released on a Ksh 100,000 bond. His case is to be heard on February 22, 2021.
Over the years, DCI has heightened its crackdown on police imposters. A case in Nyandarua county involved a resident who was impersonating the area County Commissioner.
The person was going around seeking bribes from the residents. They would also call the area chiefs and demand money that would aid their promotions.
The Senior Superintendent of the police Isaac Thuranira Muriuki revealed some of the tactics that cons used to impersonate the police and rob citizens of their property.
