In the circular dated November 20, Mbugua warned the officers to avoid overdoing their dressing so that they remain formal while on duty.
He further asked them to acquaint themselves with the Chapter 11 dress-code regulations as issued by the headquarters.
“I draw your attention on service standing orders Chapter 11 dress-code regulations which stipulate clearly on how officers should wear their hair,†read the circular according to K24 TV.
According to the dress-code regulations, the officers were warned against wearing hairstyles that extended beyond their blouses.
They are also expected to keep the hairstyles minimal not to interfere with the headgear that they are expected to wear while on duty.
The headquarters also warned the police officers to avoid wearing long nails and asked them to ensure that all tattoos on their bodies are covered by the uniforms while on duty.
They were further directed to keep their make-up subtle and discreet.
These new regulations come barely four months after the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai issued a similar warning.
Also, since President Uhuru Kenyatta changed the uniform of the police, only 25,000 officers acquired the new ones.
The officers were expected to get two shirts and two pairs of trousers. Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, however, confirmed that 40,000 police officers were yet to receive their uniforms.
“We have been able to kit 25,000 officers each getting two shirts and two pairs of trousers leaving a deficit of over 40,000 officers without the new medium blue uniform,†stated Matiang’i.
