Kenya Meteorological Department on Tuesday, November 1, unveiled a seven-day weather forecast showing several regions in Kenya expected to experience rainfall.
The forecast came at a time when the country is experiencing one of the worst droughts in 30 years.
It showed that the highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley will experience substantial rainfall this week.
They include Kisii, Nyamira, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West-Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Baringo, Nakuru and Narok counties.
North Western Kenya, which comprises of Turkana and Samburu counties, is also in line to receive substantial rainfall. This will be a reprieve for the counties battling the adverse effects of drought.
In Highland East of Rift Valley, the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties, are also slated to receive showers.
Pastoralists from North Eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will also enjoy rainfall in the next seven days.
Kenya Met, however, warned that only a few areas in Lower Eastern region including Makueni, Machakos and Kitui together with Kajiado and Taveta counties will receive rains.
Four counties in the Coast region will also experience substantial rainfall. They include Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties.
Areas that will receive rainfall between 21-50mm include; Western parts of Kenya (Busia, Bungoma and Kakamega), and Mt Kenya region in Meru and Tharaka Nithi.
Those that will receive between 11-20mm of rainfall include; Isiolo, Nyanza region, Isiolo, Mandera, Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi.
The rest of the country will receive between 2-10mm of rainfall except some parts of Taveta, Kitui, Kajiado, Machakos and Wajir which will not receive any rainfall.
The rains will be a relief to most Kenyans who are depending on relief food from the government and well-wishers for sustenance.
