Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament, Ngunjiri Wambugu, has revealed that President William Ruto runs for 8 kilometres daily.
In a statement dated October 22, the former lawmaker added that Ruto shared his workout plan with him during a race in 2018.
The event was organised in honour of former Nyeri governor, Wahome Gakuru, who passed away a year before.
Wambugu was intrigued by Ruto’s fitness during the race as he completed 10 kilometres without taking any breaks, prompting him to inquire about his workout routine.
“At breakfast before we went for a church service, I actually asked Ruto what he did to stay in such shape. He told me he tries to put in some exercise every day, including running for 8 kilometres daily and has done it for over 10 years.
“He assured me he had seen it make a difference, especially for people in active politics. Looking at his videos and pictures from 15 years ago, they were a confirmation,” he stated.
Wambugu added that from his conversation with Ruto, he decided to change his lifestyle and adopt his own challenge.
“Since that day, I have always tried to put in at least an hour of exercise every couple of days a week. This is where the RunWithMyMP challenge came from.
“I don’t always get it right – as I performed extremely dismally during from June to August 2022. But when I get it done, it works wonders for the rest of the day,” he stated.
Further, he called on Kenyans to emulate the President and maintain a healthy lifestyle despite their busy working schedules.
“Do whatever you can that makes you sweat for 30 to 60 minutes every couple of days each week. I hope you also carried some lessons forward,” Wambugu advised.
