Through the Kenya Primary and Secondary Education Programme in Poor Urban Areas of Kenya – a development initiative between the governments of Germany and Kenya – a number of schools in slum areas have been transformed into visually appealing public institutions.
The total Programme funding is approximately Ksh5 Billion where 10% of the amount is contributed by the Government of Kenya.
“The Programme concerns rehabilitation, extension and equipment of pre-existing public and non-formal primary and secondary schools in poor urban areas of Kenya, in order to improve their physical infrastructure and the general teaching and learning environment,” reads a part of the statement about the project.
28 primary and secondary schools have had new construction and rehabilitation of approximately 800 classrooms, 250 ancillary rooms, sports grounds, kitchens and sanitary facilities (1200 toilets) offering new and improved learning facilities for over 40.000 students.
