A mother who is battling thyroid cancer can now have a sigh of relief after her daughter raised enough money and flew her to the United Kingdom.
According to the daughter, Peris Newlove, her mother, Rose, was rejected by her family in Kenya in 2019 shortly after returning into the country from the UK for reunion.
At the time, she had just undergone throat surgery to treat her thyroid cancer and required life-long medical assistance.
She is reported to have been rendered homeless when her family kicked her out of her grandfather’s land reportedly for lacking money yet she had flown back from the UK.
Newlove, who is based in the UK, then galvanised strangers to contribute for Rose’s travel to the UK for a descent life.
The Go Fund Me page she set up raised northwards of Ksh112,000 (£831) enough to buy her an air ticket to the UK. She arrived on Wednesday, October 19.
“I’m really happy because it was just a really stressful time but now she’s here. She’s grateful, she’s really happy to be back with her daughters.
“It was a very rough time being homeless out there, she’s happy to be back home. If all those people didn’t help then she would still be out there still. It’s amazing how good people are, it restores your faith in humanity especially with the way things are sometimes,” Newlove told Leeds Live, a UK media outlet.
In July, reports emerged that Rose had been rejected by family after returning with no money. She only had suitcase with her belongings and the cash she had on her was enough to get her a flight ticket back into the country.
“This is a very difficult time for me as my mother Rose decided to go back to Kenya but she has found herself in a bad way.
“She is homeless, has no food, no shelter and can only contact me through her phone when she is able to get help from strangers,” Newlove noted at the time.
At the time, her medication had run out and she was coughing blood when Newlove kickstarted a Go Fund Me page to help her.
Newlove noted that prior to the Go Fund Me, she and her sisters had been supporting the ailing mother who has been in and out of hospital in Kenya.
