At the same time, 478 patients recovered from the disease; 337 were discharged from home-based care program and 141 from the various hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 46,244.

Regrettably, 18 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 1,287.

CS Kagwe noted that the ministry had held discussions in order to come up with various strategies to help curb the second wave that has gripped the country.

“This has been the darkest month since the pandemic struck in March. Since the beginning of the month, we have had 14,926 positive cases and lost 274 people,8 of which are medical doctors,” he noted.

The two meetings entailed discussions with Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and also National Emergency Response Committee (NERC) for the Covid-19 pandemic.

He noted that the County Committees ought to hold emergency meetings in order to assess preparedness within the Counties in regards to the second wave of the pandemic. The committees were also directed to develop various strategies and also respond to shortcomings in each County.

CS Kagwe also pointed out that all measures agreed upon by the Committees had to be in line with the objectives and directives of the Ministry. His final appeal was to the police and other enforcement agencies to implement without any reservations the laid down protocols given.
