The family of the late former President Daniel arap Moi, on Tuesday, February 4, has shed light regarding the plans for his burial following his demise on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to the press at Moi’s Kabarnet Gardens residence in Nairobi, Moi’s son Raymond revealed that the burial of the departed statesman was scheduled to take place at Kabarak, Baringo County.

“The family appreciates the speed at which our beloved military and the government apparatus moved in to secure Mzee’s (Moi’s) situation.

“This gesture has given the assurance that all is well in the days ahead until His Excellency is interred at his Kabarak home when the time comes,” stated Raymond as quoted by Capital FM.

Raymond went on to add that the burial date would be communicated after consultation with the government.

“We are still consulting with the government and it is a state funeral now which has been taken over by the government. It is a military affair now and so we cannot give the exact dates until we liaise with them,” he continued

Other media reports, however, indicated that the fallen statesman will be buried on Wednesday, February 12, after a scheduled requiem mass a day before.

The decision was arrived at following a family meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

Moi passed away on the morning of Tuesday, February 4, at The Nairobi Hospital after battling a long illness.

Deputy President William Ruto, in his address at Harambee House Annex on Tuesday, directed the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua to take over the late former head of state’s burial plan.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a proclamation dispatch to media houses, eulogised Moi as a noble and outstanding leader.
