One of those hacked to death was a renowned businessman identified as Sidik Sumra who has once been feted by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Sumra runs a successful dairy farm known as Sumra Dairy Farm which is located in Kikambala-Amkeni in Kilifi.
His rise to fame came in August 2016 when his animals emerged winners in various categories during the Mombasa Agricultural show.
“It was a dream come true for my animals to win at the event. I could not believe that I was also the overall top dairy farmer as I was participating in the Mombasa show for the first time,†Sumra told Nation.
It was due to this outstanding experience that President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Sumra during the official opening of the show.
But his life came to an end when villagers in Kilifi descended on them hacking them to death and later setting their car on fire.
Coast Regional Commander John Elangata confirmed the incident stating that the three had gone to inspect a land to buy when the villagers landed on them hacking them to death.
Sumra was accompanied by his son and a farmhand.
So far, three people have been arrested in connection with the incident as the investigation intensifies to nab more suspects.
“We have arrested three people, locals have been helpful, and we shall get to the bottom of the matter,†he said.
A similar incident happened in the Zimmerman area in Nairobi where a car was attacked after residents suspected the owners of being kidnappers.
The police were forced to use teargas to disperse the irate mob and rescue the occupants of the car who were thoroughly beaten and their car overturned.
