  • Citizen TV‘s power couple Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla have continuously warmed fans’ hearts with their on-screen chemistry, mastery and delivery of the Swahili language as well as outstanding matching outfits that complement each other’s looks.

The duo has celebrated close to fifteen years in marriage, proving that their bond stretches deep both on and off camera.

In most cases during relationships, certain issues which come into play ultimately test the couple’s mettle and ties; among them the money factor particularly the question surrounding who earns more than the other.

Unknown to many, the couple has been earning equal salaries from the time they met while working at different media houses.

While speaking at a past interview at Spm Buzz, Lulu affirmed that they both began at radio where they earned an equal pay of Ksh5,000 each.

At the time, Lulu, who was 20 years old was a part-time news anchor while also pursuing her studies in media.

“..we are from two different backgrounds, he is from Kwale County and I’m from Mombasa County. So, there’s a perception that those who hail from town come from a well-off family but you never know. If you look at where we started, we began at radio, we earned the same salary, that’s what people don’t understand.

“We used to get Ksh5,000 each back then. So, once you get it, you go and get yourself a piece of chicken and continue with life,” she stated.

In addition, Lulu pointed out that when they relocated to Nairobi, they received lucrative job opportunities at two leading media stations in Kenya.

At the time, Lulu was being trained to become a TV news anchor at KTN while Rashid was contracted to be a presenter at NTV. However, despite the different job descriptions, they still earned equal salaries.

“When we relocated to Nairobi, we were fortunate enough to be hired at the same time; him at Nation Media Group and me at Standard Media Group, we still earned the same salary,” she noted.

The bubbly news anchor also affirmed that to date, they still earn equal salaries while at Royal Media Services.

“Where we are right now (Citizen TV), we earn the same salary. So, there’s no notion that I have more than him and vice versa,” she set the record straight.

Aside from news anchoring, the duo co-owns Jiffy pictures; a production company that has birthed elite actors and actresses to ultimate stardom with the most notable being Yasmin Said (Maria).
