The son of former Ainabkoi MP, William Chepkut, requested to meet President William Ruto while addressing mourners at the burial of the lawmaker on Tuesday, October 18.
Speaking at their Anabkoi home, the son stated that he admires President Ruto’s school of politics and would wish to be nurtured by the head of state in his quest to follow in his father’s footsteps.
He thus reached out to Kapseret MP, Oscar Sudi, and requested the lawmaker to link him up with the President just as his father, the deceased, was trained by the late Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott.
“Honourable Sudi, I ask you for one favour; that you tell the current president that I would like to have a cup of tea with him so that he can teach me how to become like my father,” he stated
Chepkut’s other son also endeavoured to join politics, promising to contents in the Ainabkoi parliamentary elections in the future.
The children of the former lawmaker further eulogised him as a loving and caring father who was always present in their lives.
They noted that in between his National Assembly duties, he would always make time for the family. check on their progress and advise them on life issues.
“He loved eating roasted maize and at times he would wake me up and say, ‘My son, come let us roast maize together,'” his other son recalled.
Senate speaker, Amason Kingi, eulogised the late Chepkut as a devoted and selfless leader who always put people’s interests before his own.
In addition, Kingi pledged Ksh500,000 for the welfare of the children, while Sudi and incumbent Ainabkoi MP, Samuel Chepkonga, vowed to jointly take care of their former colleague’s sons.
Other leaders who attended the burial include Uasin Gishu governor, Jonathan Bii, Senator Jackson Mandago, Kimilili MP, Didmas Barasa, and former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra.
Chepkut passed away on October 8 while receiving treatment after he collapsed in his Nairobi home.
According to the family spokesperson, the lawmaker had been ill for a while suffering from high blood pressure.
