“All the students should therefore vacate the main campus immediately and not later than 1.00 pm today July 15,” reads the memo in part.

The students blocked the road leading to their campus and engaged police officers in running battles.

The incident came just a day after University of Nairobi (UoN) students took to the streets to demonstrate the raise of school fees in the institution.

Police officers had to lob teargas to disperse the demonstrating students.

They also manned all entrances of the main campus to make sure that the students did not take the protests to the Nairobi streets.

Three UoN students were locked up at the Central Police station.

The new school fees increment will apply to students enrolling to join the University starting from August 2021.

Some of the degrees that have been affected include commerce, economics and law under the parallel plan have been increased by up to 70 percent to about Ksh1 million for the four years.
