A report by People Daily on Monday, December 7, indicated that the construction of Muhoho Teachers Training College had been approved and was expected to cost Ksh1 billion.
The institution is set to be built at Gatitu Primary School grounds with construction expected to begin in January 2021.
While approving its construction, the Ministry of Education donated Ksh20 million towards the project with the rest expected to come from Gatundu South National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
“Gatundu South National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) will provide the balance of the funds in the current and subsequent years to actualise the construction of the institution,†read a statement from the board.
While at the event, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria hailed the project saying it is set to boost the academic development of the region.
He further noted that the constituency had constantly suffered from a shortage of teachers.
“We want to equally distribute development in all areas. Having a medical training college, a university and a technical institution in Ng’enda ward, we thought of balancing this by initiating a teacher training college in Kiganjo ward.
“The constituency has also been facing severe shortage of teachers. We hope this college will help solve that problem,†stated Kuria.
Upon its completion, the college will accommodate between 3,000 and 5,000 trainees.
The residents have welcomed the project noting that it will open opportunities for business expansion including cyber cafes, hotels, hostels and salons.
Muhoho College will be the second major academic institution after Mama Ngina University whose construction is 70 percent complete.
The Ksh2 billion University project is expected to handle at least 10,000 students upon completion.
