  • Through a notice on Monday, February 20, the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services revealed seven government agencies whose services would be fully digitised by June 2023.

According to the statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, Communications Authority, and National Cereals and Produce Board were set to fully automate their services by June 2023.

Additionally, the National Environment Management Authority, Kenya National Library Services, and the Kenya Airports Authority were also among the listed government institutions expected to automate their services.

The automated services include payments to the government, inquiries, and issuance of different documents as requested by users.

Speaking during a meeting held by government ministries and state agencies on Monday, February 20,  the Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services Julius Bitok, noted that the move would ensure the provision of faster, more convenient, and user-friendly services.

“We want a pentagon system that takes care of everyone’s interest while also moving as fast as possible to implement what the public truly deserves,” Bitok stated.

Moreover, Bitok stated that 77 government-owned service providers and other major private firms that provide web-based payment, were working together to develop strategies to ensure the rollout of the online systems.

According to Bitok, digitisation of the services would also ensure that the government reaches its target of enhancing revenue collection through the e-Citizen digital system.

The PS reiterated that the government was on course to provide over 5000 services online in compliance with a presidential directive.

“We are confident that by May, we will have the majority of these services accessible online.

“We also hope to substantially raise the revenue generated from the services by enhancing convenience and therefore the uptake of the services,” Bitok added.

Earlier on January 8, Ministry of Foreign Affairs principal secretary, Roseline Njogu announced changes to the eCitizen portal stating that the platform was updated to enable users to sign up for an account with an email ID only.

“Government services are going digital. You can now create your ⁦E-citizen account using your email only if you don’t have a Kenyan phone number,” PS Roseline explained.
