  • Elijah Obuong’s mother has opened up on exhuming and stealing the body of her son on Wednesday night, June 2.

Kisumu County Police Commander – Samuel Anampiu – launched a manhunt for a group of seven individuals suspected to have fled with the body, leaving an empty coffin behind.

Carolyne Akinyi, on Saturday, June 12, stated that she was ready to turn herself to the police who are tracking her down. Akinyi asked the officers to let her heal and mourn and her son first before she surrenders.

She explained that she exhumed her son’s body buried at his aunt’s place, as it was reportedly interred near a sewer line.

“The body would have been swept into the waste pit if we had not acted. Elijah was my son. So, don’t pester me with questions on his body’s whereabouts.

“I can decide to bury it anywhere else, even in Tanzania,” she told the Standard

Akinyi further asked the media and critics to shift their focus on asking the police to expedite the case as she claimed that the detectives attached to it were buying time.

She lamented that there was no concrete development so far and the government had failed to unravel her son’s killers.

Obuong was among four victims who were tortured and reportedly murdered in relation to a crime racket that enjoyed the protection of a rogue officer.

Others were Jack Ochieng, Benjamin Imbai and Brian Odour. The four were allegedly kidnapped after hanging out at a resort in Kitengela town.

An autopsy conducted at the Murang’a County Referral Hospital morgue indicated that Obuong died of strangulation.
