Kenyan Governor Beats African Leaders to Prestigious Award

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang on Thursday, October 3, took to social media to announce his inclusion to the list of the most influential young people in Africa.

The governor announced that he was in the list that was created by the Africa Youth Awards while stressing that the youth were the future of the continent.

“I am elated to have made it to the list of most influential young people in Africa by the Africa Youth Awards. The future of our continent lies in her youthful generation and we appreciate the fact that young people are going out of their way to change our continent,” the governor wrote on Facebook.

Other Kenyans in the list include former BBC Africa business correspondent Larry Madowo, former Kiss 100 presenter Adele Onyango and businessman Darshan Chandaria.

Peter Kibich, Beatrice Chepkoech, Elizabeth Wathuti, Natalie Tingo and Shirlene Nafula are also on the list 

The Africa Youth Awards is a prestigious award scheme that was launched in 2014 to recognize and appreciate young Africans who have selflessly dedicated their lives to making sure the future of the continent was optimistic.

The awards are given to young africans who have excelled in various disciplines including law and governance, leadership and civil Society, science and technology, sports, business, entertainment industry, lifestyle, media, personal development academia and social enterprise philanthropy.

The governor announced that he had been enlisted under the law and governance sector alongside Adebo Ogundoyin the speaker of Oyo State in Nigeria, Ahmat Jidoud from Niger, Aya Chebii AU Youth Envoy from Tunisia, Carmel Samimi Legal Director Africa Reckitt from South Africa, Jean De Dieu Rwanda’s High commissioner to Singapore among other young people in the sector.

“I am happy that my contributions while I served as chairperson for the Governors Intergovernmental Relations Committee, Chairperson of the Sessional Committee on Delegated Legislation, the Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Legal Affairs and also a representative of the Kenyan Parliament in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) made impact in our country,” governor Sang added.

He went on to congratulate his fellow Kenyans who made it to the list. 

“I would like to congratulate my brothers and sisters, Darshan Chandaria whose influence in the business sector cannot be overstated, Adelle Onyango who has inspired many women in Kenya, Beatrice Chepkoech world record holder in the 3000M steeplechase, Elizabeth Wanjiru the Founder of Green Generation Initiative, Larry Madowo a renowned Journalist , Natalie Robi Tingo the founder Msichana Empowerment and Shirlene Nafula CEO Crystal River Products,” he announced.

He ended his post by giving young Africans some advice asking them to continue striving towards excellence in their various fields.
