  • The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has flagged a notice circulating online calling for Kenyans to supply goods to the Ministry of Defence.

Through its social media page on Wednesday, December 7, KDF warned members of the public to be on high alert over such schemes aimed at conning them millions.

“Members of the public are notified that the Ministry of Defence has not issued the under-mentioned tender. It is fake.

“Always verify all information on tender advertisements by MoD on our social media pages or by contacting the ministry,” KDF warned.

The tender notice called for applications to supply and deliver goods and services between 2022-2023.

It was allegedly signed by the Head of Supply Chain Management Services for the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.

“The Ministry of Defence Kenya (herein referred to as the Procuring entity) invites sealed tenders from eligible tenderers for Supply and Delivery of goods and services,” read part of the notice.

Some goods that were to be supplied included berets, standard dining tables, furniture chairs, white socks, canvas shoes, and jerseys.

Other were printers, webbing equipment, branded hospital uniforms, ready-to-eat meals, and army boots.

“The Ministry of Defence reserves the right to accept or reject any tender either wholly or in part and does not bind itself to accept the lowest quotes,” the notice read on.

Notably, interested suppliers were to pay a non-refundable Ksh12,000. Also, the prices were to be quoted in Kenya shillings or US dollars.

The submissions were to be made before Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

In July 2022, the government issued new guidelines published by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) to weed out cartels in the public procurement sector.

Anyone intending to supply to the government was expected to register as a procurement agent with the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management and to submit their documents to the PPRA director-general after paying Ksh50,000.
