Faith was selected to join the Kenya High School after scoring 433 marks out of a possible 500 in KCPE.
The 14-year-old girl who sat her exams at Kari Mwailu Primary School expressed her desire to pursue medicine at the University of Nairobi and become a neurosurgeon.
However, her father Paul Mumo stated that they were unable to raise money for her fees and other expenses that may arise during admission.
This is after a number of well-wishers who promised to cater for her school fees went quiet.
“There are several people and cooperate organizations and private organizations and leaders who promised to support us but have since gone silent,” he explained.
He revealed that he required at least Ksh120,000 for Mumo to successfully join Form One.
Only Margaret Wanjiru of Jesus is Alive Ministries honoured her promise by sending a Ksh26,000 cheque as part of her school fees. In addition, Mr. Mumo stated that they were expecting an unspecified amount of money from Matungulu MP Stephen Mule.
He admitted that he plans to report to school with whatever money they will have and plead with the principal to allow them more time to look for the rest of the fees.
Mr. Mumo, an accountant by profession lost his job in 2020 at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. He resorted to farming vegetables and pepper which he sells to meet the needs of his family.
He stated that he is unable to pay fees for Mumo and her three other siblings: one in Form 2, another joining Class 8 and another joining Grade 4.
She is expected to join Form One on August 2, alongside other students who secured placements in various secondary schools in the country.
