Nominated Jubilee MP Maina Kamanda on Friday, January 10 assured ODM Party leader Raila Odinga of Central Kenya’s support for the BBI report.

He was speaking during the first county BBI consultative forum hosted by Governor James Ongwae, at Kisii Stadium.

“The Central Kenya region is fully supporting the BBI report and nothing can change their stand,” remarked Kamanda.

Kamanda further accused Deputy President William Ruto of trying to buy Mt Kenya leaders’ support.

“Don’t panic over the money that has been poured in the region. The same tactic was used in Kibra but did not work.

“I want to tell the deputy president that dishing out the large amounts of money doesn’t help woo people. This won’t make you clinch the position that you want forcibly,” remarked Kamanda.

Kamanda further warned Central Kenya politicians affiliated to the deputy president, stating that they are at the verge of losing their seats.

The MP also warned his fellow parliamentarians against their growing opposition to President Kenyatta, cautioning that it would eventually backfire on them.

“The MPs affiliated to the deputy president are known to receive a stipend every weekend for insulting President Kenyatta.

“Unfortunately, the man they are looking at as an incumbent president will never taste leadership as president,” added Kamanda.

Kamanda also urged Kenyans to only listen to Kenyatta and Odinga on matters regarding the BBI, warning that other leaders were only there to misguide them for political gains.

“The presidency lies in the hands of Uhuru and Raila. We are just waiting for the president and Raila to visit the region and all other leaders and their stands will be totally forgotten,” stated Kamanda.

During the event, ODM leader Raila Odinga urged Kenyans to embrace the BBI, terming it as the only way to get them out of the current problems facing the country.

“Kenya is embarking on a new journey. I am confident that we will get to our destination. We have to unite as one people and one Kenya. That is the call that we are carrying from here,” remarked Odinga.

Odinga further urged leaders to avoid using the BBI report as a tool to cause divisions along regional or ethnic lines.

“There is no country in the world that is similar to Kenya, therefore each and every country must find solutions to each of its own problems and peculiarities.

“We cannot go and copy how they did it in America. We must deal with these issues ourselves, that is why we say this is a game of inclusion, not excluding,” added Raila.
