Circumstances that led to Wetundu’s death are still unclear.
The governor mourned the deceased as a selfless individual who was selfless, charismatic and principled.

“His leadership qualities were recognised by the ANC Party which he served both at the local and national level,” read the statement by the governor.
Until his demise, Wetundu served at the County Government of Kakamega as a coordinator of youth and women empowerment programme for Malava Sub-county.
“In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts and prayers go to the people of Shirugu Mugai ward whom he earned their respect, confidence and trust, electing him to represent them for four terms in a row,” the governor added.
On his part, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala described the late as a fierce legislator, a leader, a family man and a friend to many.
“It is with utter disbelief and deep shock that I have learnt of the sudden, untimely demise of former Shirugu Mugai ward Mca, Hon. Albert Wetundu.
“My sympathies go out to the family and friends as well as the people of Shirugu Mugai ward, and the entire Anc party fraternity for this irreparable loss,” he stated.
