Former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo made life-changing promises to the family of the late Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi, famously known as Gearbox or Silo, while addressing the audience at the deceased’s requiem mass.

On Wednesday, March 4, while speaking at St Joseph Catholic Church in Kahawa Sukari Kiambu County, Kabogo affirmed that the MCA was a friend and he would strive to see his family live comfortably.

Kabogo asked Kiambu Governor James Nyoro to ensure that the MCAs wife, first of all, landed a job that would enable her to provide for her children.

“I met Silo many years ago in 2004 when we were joining politics and I remember a few years back when he was pursuing to be nominated as the Jubilee candidate for the MCA seat, I paid his Ksh 50,000 nomination fee.

“Governor Nyoro, it’s not hard for us to ensure that the wife lands a job. That’s possible. I will also pay school fees for his children as he was my friend,” Kabogo stated, as the crowd lauded him.

He further added that he would provide three buses to ferry mourners to the deceased’s burial in Ugenya, Siaya County.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria also recalled how he was close to Silo. Kuria stated that the politics in Kiambu County was mature, judging by how the residents had voted for him, despite the fact that he hailed from Western Kenya.

“I would like to attend the burial in my brother Senator James Orengo’s backyard. However, Orengo(who was in attendance), please assure me that my safety would be guaranteed,” Kuria jocked.

“First of all, I want to thank the residents for supporting Silo as MCA and Kenyans have shown that they always put tribalism aside to work together. Tribalism must end in Kenya. To Kuria, you are welcome in Ugenya for the burial as Kenya is one nation,” Orengo replied.

As usual, politics also dominated in the ceremony, with Kabogo taking a swipe at former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu who was impeached.

“My issue has never been with the Kiambu residents. My issue was with ule jamaa mwingine (Waititu). But after Nyoro took over, I can work together with the county governor’s office,” Kabogo proclaimed.

“In Ugenya, Raila Odinga is the first popular person. Moses Kuria is second. However, while Kabogo was governor, I never undermined him. To Nyoro, work for the people and uplift their lives. On the BBI issue, we are only opposing those using the initiative to dictate leaders for us, but we totally support it,” Kuria stated.
