Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday, December 12, waived all dues owed by discharged patients to Coast General Teaching and Referal Hospital.

In the spirit of Jamhuri, Joho revealed that the county had developed a tradition to aid the less fortunate.

“Today afternoon I authorized a complete waiver of hospital bills for all patients who have been discharged but have not been released because of non-payment of bills at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital,” Joho stated on a Facebook post.

“This is in line with our tradition of assisting the less fortunate during Jamhuri Day celebrations,” he added.

Speaking to kenyagist.com, Mombasa County Director of Communications Richard Chacha informed that the directive would be effected even though the governor was out of the country.

“It is an initiative the governor developed for every Jamhuri Day and he has been committed to fulfilling it every year,” Chacha stated.

Joho was pleased that those discharged would get the opportunity to celebrate Kenya’s independence with their families and friends.

Present during the release of the patients was Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.

In his message, Joho also recognised Kenya’s forefathers and called for citizens to acknowledge them for their role in shaping Kenya’s fortunes.

“As we commemorate this auspicious occasion, let us also honour and appreciate the sacrifices of our founding fathers by promoting cohesion and peaceful coexistence,” the governor urged.
