Legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday, March 11, responded to lawmakers allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga who had earlier called for Deputy President William Ruto to resign.
Speaking from parliament, the Ruto allied lawmakers stated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s strategy was that of the Nusu mkate government.
In their statement, the lawmakers alleged that there was a meeting that would be held to bring an impeachment motion against the DP.

“We are aware that there is another meeting tomorrow to bring an impeachment motion against the Deputy President and get him out of office so that Raila can get a position in government,” an excerpt from the statement read.
Further, the lawmakers claimed that Raila was eyeing the Chief Minister’s seat, which is currently occupied by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
“There are plans to reconstitute government so that ODM can occupy half of the cabinet. In the interim Raila is campaigning to be made Chief Minister in President Uhuru’s government,” read the statement.
Additionally, the lawmakers accused Raila of threatening the legitimacy of the BBI report and claimed that his objective was not to unite Kenyans.
“It has everything to do with his insatiable appetite for power that has been evident since the 1982 coup.
“BBI process has been fraudulently hijacked by Raila who has been doing around the county using it to insult the Deputy President,” the lawmakers stated.
They warned that BBI was not a platform to wage partisan war using state budget.
They added that anyone questioning the loyalty of the DP to the President was not only dishonest but evil.
Their response came hours after MPs allied to the President and ODM leader called on the deputy president to change his behavior or risk being impeached.
“With this state of affairs, Ruto must shape up or ship out. He needs time and undivided attention to pursue the only thing and ambition that makes sense and that has meaning in his life- dream and campaign for the 2022 presidential elections,” their statement read.
