  • Agano Party flagbearer David Mwaure, on Monday, July 4, revealed a plan to raise the salaries of Kenyans by September if he wins the August 9 general election.

Speaking during the launch of his manifesto, Mwaure declared that he would slash the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax levied on gross income by 50 percent.

He stated that the reprieve will increase their financial independence and cushion Kenyans from harsh financial times.

“To cushion Kenyans, from the first day of our being in office – in our opening speech – we shall officially reduce the PAYE paid by Kenyans by 50 per cent.

“This will enable Kenyans to have money with themselves, be able to meet their expenses, be able to feed themselves and increase the number of meals per day from One in two days to a least one per day,” he stated.

If enforced, all Kenyans who earn above the Ksh32,332 per-month-cap will save up to Ksh4,850 monthly – a figure that translates to Ksh58,200 annually.

Mwaure further noted that within his first days in office, he will issue an executive order to declare a waiver on all tax penalties accrued by business owners that fail to file tax returnsĀ or pay tax altogether.

“We shall wave tax penalties that have been accrued until the day we are sworn in to enable businesses, farmers and start-ups who are now forced to hide from the taxman. But between now and them, we encourage you to fulfill your obligations,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Agano Party leader explained that the manifesto launch was not a mega event like that of his competitors because he did not have the financial muscle to hold it at the Bomas of Kenya, Kasarani, or the KICC.

His running mate Ruth Mutua called on any Kenyan who believed in the party’s course to make contributions to fund them as they embark on their nationwide presidential campaigns.

“I am calling in the people to embrace and support Agano which is truly the people’s party. Today, as we launch our manifesto, we are not only asking for your vote, we are asking you to fund our campaign too.

“Please for your support in finances, you can dial *486*777 and donate any amount to support our course,” Mutua pleaded.

Mwaure was the last presidential candidate to unveil his manifesto after Azimio’s Raila Odinga, UDA’s William Ruto and Roots party’s Prof George Wajackoyah.
