Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday, November 26, announced his plan to counter a series of allegations about misappropriation of funds which were levelled against him.
The embattled governor, on his Facebook page, announced that he would highlight all the projects undertaken by his administration, to disprove claims by MPs that he had misappropriated county funds.
“Last week a section of my brothers from the National Assembly stated that there are no development projects that the county government has undertaken on the ground, and that no development funds have been utilized this year,” Sonko stated.
He was responding to claims by Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi on K24 TV on Sunday, November 24, where he stated that he had not seen any development in his constituency in the period 2018/2019.
Sonko, in a rebuttal, stated that he would lay bare the projects he had undertaken, including in Westlands, where the MP had stated that there was nothing done by the county government.
“I thank God, the internet has a very good memory and does not lie! You can lie to yourself on a TV station and in a smear campaign but you cannot fool the public! Be the judge if the Nairobi County Government’s work is visible in Westlands Constituency contrary to my brother Hon. Wanyonyi’s assertions,” he wrote.
The Nairobi governor had also been on the receiving end of wrath from legislators who accused him of running down the county government.
Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, on Thursday, November 21, called out the governor over the state of affairs in the capital.
Sakaja claimed that Sonko had overseen the collapse of Nairobi, going on to state that the capital was drowning in corruption and mismanagement.
While he took issue with the statements from the leaders, the county chief admitted that he was still a long way from achieving his manifesto.
“Even though much still needs to be done, we shall be highlighting all the projects we have done in each of the 17 constituencies,” the governor concluded.
