  • Police officers drawn from the National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday, December 10, arrested a suspect believed to be behind recent robberies in Nairobi.

In a statement released by NPS, the suspect was arrested by Kilimani police officers in a sting operation.

The police officers were swift to nab the notorious suspect, after reviewing CCTV footage which revealed his pilfering activities.

“Police in Kilimani Nairobi through the use of CCTV cameras have nabbed a male suspect linked to recent robbery incidents within the city,” part of the statement read.

It was not the first time the suspect had rubbed shoulders with the law as it was revealed that he was an ex-convict.

Although connected to robberies in Nairobi County, the suspect used Kiambu County as his hideout.

“After arrest, the suspect took the officers to his house in Wangige, Kiambu County where officers recovered several exhibits, among them shoes and clothes,” the statement expounded further.

The suspect is already in custody awaiting arraignment in a court of law.

The police department has urged Kenyans to play an active role in helping fight crime.

“We encourage members of public to continue supporting our efforts to enhance security by sharing information to the nearest police station.’

“Alternatively, Kenyans can reach the police through our toll-free numbers; 999,911,112 or 0800722203,” the police department announced to the public.

On November 14, 2022, the NPS released a list of areas considered crime hotspots in the Nairobi metropolis.

The areas include; Globe Cinema, Kipande Road, Thika highway, Drive-In flyover to Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) and the underpass at KCA towards the Total petrol station exit.

On November 28, 2022, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki took a walk in the capital and announced that crime had significantly reduced.

“The reports we have so far is that for the past week, normalcy has returned. We have not had reported crimes, especially around muggings and people being attacked using firearms and knives, the CS announced back then.
