Speaking during a press release in Nakuru, Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya promised that goodies would be given to the first 30,000 people who would show up for former President Daniel Moi’s funeral at the Kabarak University grounds on Wednesday, February 12.
While giving an update on the preparations for the burial ceremony, the Natembeya revealed that mourners would receive free soda, bread, water and the burial program.
He further promised that the first batch of 30,000 attendees would be provided with seats.
“There will be some snacks for the first 30,000 people. They will receive free soda, bread, water and a burial program for the day’s event. They will also be allocated a place to sit.
“There will be no dignitaries at the burial ceremony and therefore everyone who will show up will be regarded as a mourner…The earlier you come the better,” stated Natembeya.
During the address, the regional coordinator further disclosed that security along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway and other subsequent routes associated with the state burial would be heightened and motorists who flout traffic rules would have their cars seized.
“I urge Kenyans to have discipline while using the highway. Sometimes we experience challenges on the road not because police officers have not been deployed but because of motorist’s indiscipline. Some of them are not patient.
“Some people overlap disregarding the flow. I urge them to be disciplined so that we have a free flow of traffic. Overlapping will be a very serious offense that day and we shall deploy enough officers all the way from Nairobi to Kabarak,” he stated.
He also promised that screens would be mounted in Nakuru and other towns for people to follow the event live and that there will be enough space to accommodate more than 30,000 people.
Moi passed away on the morning of Tuesday, February 4, at The Nairobi Hospital.
