Taking to social media after the funeral of Mama Monica Kavele Ndiku, mother-in-law to his cousin’s wife, the Machakos Governor dismissed Kalonzo as a leader who resorted to underhand tactics to ensure political survival.
“I pointed out that it is a pity that leaders were recently bribed to attend a meeting at Kalonzo Musyoka’s home in Yatta, late last year. It is embarrassing that leaders, some drawing salaries and allowances of more than a million a month, were, according to media reports that have not been refuted, bribed with Ksh100,000 to Ksh200,000 to attend the function,” he claimed.
Mutua, who has been at the forefront criticizing Kalonzo, dismissed his exploits as counter-intuitive to the people who were in dire need of development.
“Instead of bribing leaders, those dishing out cash should undertake works that benefit struggling Wananchi (citizens) and not already comfortable people,” he announced.
Mutua opined that the money that Kalonzo allegedly dished out would have been enough to change the lives of the citizens in the Ukambani region.
“The money dished out could have been used to dig 30 water boreholes in Ukambani region, tarmac at least 15 Kilometres of roads, purchase over 800 boda bodas for youth or even feed 20,000 households for weeks,” he wrote.
The Machakos Governor declared that he and other leaders of the region, including Governors Charity Ngilu and Kivutha Kibwana were setting new goals with a view to bringing about political and economic change to the people in the region.
“We need leadership that focuses not just on the haves in the society but also on the ordinary struggling wananchi. We need to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, not widen it.
“This is why, in mid-February of this year, there will be a real Ukambani leaders meeting, so that our people can be freed from the politics of poverty and moved to the politics of prosperity,” he announced.
