  • Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Tuesday, December 15, responded to residents who were demanding for handouts during a rally.

The Senator was in Nyeri drumming up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) when residents interrupted his speech to ask for handouts.

Also in attendance of the rally was Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina who the residents had previously asked for handouts.

“Ephraim Maina and Jaguar have said that it is now time to give handouts. Who is more wealthy than Ephraim? there is no one, I heard that he is the super senator and super pockets.

“We are hiding our choppers on the runway while he brings his here to show who is the mighty one here,” joked Gideon.

Constitutional amendments have continued to elicit mixed reactions across the political divide in Nyeri county where Gideon hosted KANU delegates.

The KANU National Chairman has been touring the country as part of the BBI civic education drive ahead of the referendum.

The senator also distributed copies of the BBI document to the residents at the forum and encouraged them to read the document.

“We will return to go round the town popularising BBI. We know BBI will come to an end then embark on other matters and we will go with the President, Raila, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Gideon will also be there,” added the Senator.

This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, December 7 called upon the youth to stop the culture of asking for handouts.

“Please, avoid being the people depending on handouts from the leaders…instead, be able to confront your leaders and tell them what you need to be helped with in order to create your handouts,” noted the President.

Uhuru also said the youth have been used for many years to cause violence, urging them to stay away from such incidences.
