Baringo Senator Gideon Moi surprised traders at a roadside market along Nakuru-Kabarnet road in Baringo County when he made an impromptu visit.

The senator, who visited the market on Saturday, March 28, sensitized the traders on some of the measures they could use in order to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

He specifically taught the traders on the importance of handwashing and social distancing at a time when the country is fighting the spread of the virus.

In some of the photos, the senator is seen demonstrating to the traders how they should wash their hands while in another photo, he engages with a trader.

Some of those who saw the senator’s photos were not so happy with his action and took to the comment section to express their views.

“It’s too late for Gideon to pretend to be a hustler. Everyone can see through his strategy. He has realized why our DP is popular kwa ground it’s because he loves the grassroots. The problem here is: Ruto does it from his heart, while Gideon’s motive is only political,” a user by the name Kab commented.

“Tell us more about COVID 19. Every Kenyan has been educated on Handwashing technique,” Barcerop weighed in.

“Looks more of a mockery,” Mwangi stated.

Other leaders like President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have used this political tactic to reach Kenyan citizens at the grassroots.

Earlier this month on Friday, March 6, the president made an impromptu visit to Chaka open-air market in Nyeri County.

The president, who engaged the residents in Kikuyu dialect, affirmed that the Building Bridges Initiative would be one man, one vote, one shilling affair.

“We are not so interested in all these political noise making. Our major concern is that whoever takes up national leadership protects the future generation, our economic interests and that our people can live and do business anywhere in this country without fear,” the president stated.
