  • The Standard Group has yet again been dealt a huge blow after a senior reporter ditched the struggling listed giant.

Daniel Wensangula, a seasoned and dependable journalist has joined Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s communications team.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Wesangula confirmed his appointment to DP’s communications team saying he was looking forward to his new assignment.Ā

“Yes, I will be joining the team,” Wesangula revealed.Ā

Wesangula is poised to join former Consultant editor and Columnist atĀ Daily Nation, Njeri Rugene who was picked asĀ the Head of Communication Services in the Office of the Deputy President.

Wesangula has worked with the Standard Media Group since 2013 rising through the ranks, from a junior writer to a Senior reporter, a position he held until his appointment to work at the DP’s office.Ā

The Bachelor of Education (Arts) graduate from Kenyatta University has also worked with Nation Media Group, AFP and National Geographic where he worked as a fixer for the cover story in their January 2017 Issue on Gender.

The Special Projects Writer describes himself as a passionate digital storyteller, film maker and success story documentation expert.

Wesangula’s exit from Standard Media Group comes just a day after the resignation ofĀ medical journalist, Dr. Mercy Korir, news anchor Sharon Momanyi and seasoned Foreign Affairs editor, Lilian Odera from the Mombasa road-based media house.Ā

Dr Korir has already joined AAR Hospital as its Business Development Manager while Sharon Momanyi and Lilian Odera’s next move are still unknown.Ā

Standard Group has lost top talent in the past one year, largely because of its financial standing, as it struggles to stay afloat.

The Mombasa Road-based firm is set to lay off after declaring a redundancy notice, blaming its financial crisis on a harsh economic environment.

KTN News and The Standard newspaper are the hardest-hit, with the ongoing talent hemorrhage likely to persist.
