  • Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, December 14, launched the maiden Airlines to Kakamega Airstrip.

While delivering President William Ruto’s message, Gachagua noted that the government was committed to fulfilling its promises to the Western Kenya residents.

He lauded the president’s efforts in approaching a private flight company for a partnership deal.

“The president went out of his way to reach out to the private flight company for a partnership for the sake of Western Kenya,” he stated.

The DP affirmed that Ruto’s timely intervention had come to the aid of the Western Kenya leadership and residents in general.

“The leadership and people of Western Kenya have been crying for many years but no one has ever given them an ear.

“Less than a week after Ruto listened to them, this has happened today,” he announced.

Transport Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen was tasked by the government to open commercial flights to every county or neighboring counties for ease of business operations.

“The president has asked CS Murkomen to make sure that at the end of the term to have opened commercial flights to every county or neighboring counties for easy business operations and travel,” DP reported.

Gachagua called upon Kenyans to make use of air travel as it is no longer a luxury but a necessity. He noted that the opportunity would promote businesses and the tourism sector.

“There was a period I worked in Kakamega while my family lived in Nairobi. It was so tiring as I would drive for six hours.

“By the time am arriving at Kakamega, I would be very tired. It is actually cheap to travel to Kakamega by air than road,” he uttered.
