  • For a long time, Kenyan media houses were not showing a lot of local content until Citizen TV changed the game with the premier of Tahidi High in 2006.

The show quickly grabbed the attention of many Kenyans, becoming the most-watched show due to how relatable it was, showcasing the life of high school students.

Speaking to kenyagist.com, actor Ashley Murugi who played the role of Ashley, hinted that the group was planning to do a reunion.

“We are planning a reunion which will be like a round table where we’ll catch up and exchange notes on what we have been up to,” Ashley stated.

The show was a stepping stone for other young actors like Sarah Hassan (Tanya), Shirleen Wangari (Shish) Kamau Kinuthia (Omosh), Miss Morgan (Angel Waruinge), Patrick ‘Tsyder’ Gatundu (Tony), Emmanuel Mugo (Moses) and many others.

Since leaving the show, the creatives have gone on to scale up their work in the film industry, creating employment and opportunities for budding actors.

Sarah Hassan delved into the silver screens, bagging the Best Lead Actress Award at the 2019 Kalasha Awards.

Her boyfriend in the show, OJ, ventured into advertising, before returning to the film industry to help run Embu County Government Talent Academy. He also plans to start a YouTube Channel called OJ Flix, produced by Ashley, which is scheduled to premiere on Saturday, August 22.

Ashley is currently the Deputy Director of the Governor’s Press in Embu County, where she uses her networks to provide opportunities to young actors through the talent academy.

Recently, she produced a short film, Vivian, which won Ksh 250,000 in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Ksh100 million stimulus package for the film industry. OJ was the director of the short film.
