  • Few radio presenters have had the privilege of working for 4 different media houses like Annitah Raey of Hot 96 FM.

In a candid interview with fellow presenter Jeff Kuria, she detailed her journey through the different radio stations.

Her first job was at Ghetto Radio where she was working for free for two months until the managing director noticed her and offered a permanent job in 2013.

Annitah confessed that after gaining some popularity, she started neglecting work and at one point went missing for two weeks.

“I had gone for a road trip to Eldoret over the weekend and did not go back to work for two weeks for no reason. I thought they would look for me,†she stated, adding that she was 24 years old at that time.

When she finally decided to go back to work, the station refused to accept her and she was asked to reflect on her life.

After a few months of struggling and looking for jobs in Kasarani, Nairobi, Ghetto Radio Managing Director Maji Maji reached out to her and encouraged her to focus on her radio career.

He asked her to help conceptualise a breakfast show and after she did, he told her to execute the plan, returning to the airwaves.

The few months she was out of work taught Annitah a few lessons about friendship and as soon as she bounced back she became more intentional about who she let into her life.

After a year at Ghetto Radio, she went for maternity leave and delivered a baby girl. On returning to work, the mother of two was poached to join Milele FM. However, she left the station after a sexual harassment ordeal.

After leaving Milele FM, she was offered an opportunity at Radio Jambo. She created a new show called Sema na Raey, which she takes pride in up to date.

“I hosted a 5-hour talk show that created a new audience for me and I became very popular. People still associate me with the show though I left Radio Jambo,†she explained.

While she was still working at Radio Jambo, she started looking for opportunities to host shows where she would talk about whatever she wanted, outside the watershed period.

Former Royal Media Services Programs Manager Simaloi Dajom tried to convince Annitah to join Radio Citizen for four months but the presenter declined. One of the reasons she cited was the difference in content and age gap.

Finally an opportunity arose at the youthful Hot 96 FM in 2018, and she joined RMS.
