Finance Bill demos: Police deployed to man shops in Kisumu

-

Police officers have been deployed to protect business premises in the streets of Kisumu amid protest against the Finance Bill.

The officers are strategically stationed at the supermarkets, banks and other critical premises to protect them from any destruction or looting.

Several shops which included supermarkets in Kisumu have closed while others are operating as usual.

Quickmart supermarkets closed their outlets located at Oginga Odinga Street, Kenyatta Highway, Kondele and Nyalenda.

Khetias supermarkets which neighbours Quickmart supermarket on Kenyatta Highway also closed alongside the other at Kisumu Bus Park.

At United Mall, Carrefour supermarkets and other businesses such as Java, Text Book Centre and KFC operate normally.

However, the main entrances to the mall have been closed with security tightened.

At Kisumu Boys roundabout, the protesters lit bonfires demanding rejection of the Bill they termed punitive.
