Ex-ODM Leader Exposes Raila's Doublespeak Ahead of Nyanza Rally

-

  • Former Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi expressed his disappointment ahead of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition Nyanza rally scheduled for Monday, February 13.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, February 11, the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker accused former Prime Minister Raila Odinga of plotting to lead other Kenyans astray while saving his home turf.

He noted that the planned rallies were concentrated away from Raila’s home, claiming that the former Premier encouraged his people in Siaya and surrounding counties to work with the government headed by President William Ruto.

“It should be noted that Raila welcomed Ruto with open arms in Luo Nyanza during the homecoming of ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.

“Siaya Governor James Orengo also delivered his apologies and greetings. He further encouraged the people of Luo-Nyanza to embrace the government for development,” he claimed.

Maangi noted that the opposition leader was ready for the development of his people, yet he urged other regions to denounce Ruto’s presidency.

“It, therefore, comes as a surprise to us that the same Raila is inciting the people of Gusii and trying to lead them to turn against the current government when encouraging people of Luo-Nyanza to work with the government,” he added.

The former Kisii Deputy Governor maintained that the Gusii community was behind Ruto’s government and their mandate was to support him.

Sending their gratitude to Ruto, the leaders expressed their happiness in his choice to appoint Ezekiel Machogu as the Education Cabinet Secretary.

“We thank the President for appointing Education CS Ezekiel Machogu who is so much capable of delivering. We are not begging, we are demanding that the President must be respected,” he added.

Maangi rejoined Ruto’s camp in March 2022, a few months after he ditched Ruto for Raila. He had been an ODM member since December 2021.

On January 14, Raila tasked Orengo with welcoming Ruto to his home turf. He stated that Raila wanted his arch-rival in the 2022 August 9 polls to feel at home.

“I spoke to Raila an hour ago, and he said that I should pass his word of welcome to you (Ruto) and that you should feel at home. I ask you to seek your brother Raila and sit together in the spirit of brotherhood and togetherness, not in the spirit of the handshake. The elections are over. For the good of Kenya, come together,” he stated.
