Estonian President to Participate in Nairobi Streets Clean-up Exercise

  • Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, who is in Kenya on a three day State visit, has announced that she will participate in a cleanup exercise in Nairobi on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

    The cleanup event will be held along Kijabe Street by Let’s Do It Kenya, which hosts the World Clean Up Day initiative and other environmental conservation-related activities in the country.

    Let’s Do It Kenya is a civic movement for youth and aims at uniting young people, raise awareness and agitates for change and a clean and healthy environment.

    Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the National Olympics Committee of Kenya are also partners in the event.

    The event comes as the world prepares to mark World Clean-up Day on September 18, 2021.

    World Clean Up Day is an initiative of Let’s Do It World headquartered in Estonia.

    “It is an honour for us to host President Kersti Kaljulaid at our cleanup event. Her visit is timely as we are just getting set to mark world cleanup day next week,†Let’s Do It Kenya Founder Christine Sayo told a local publication.

    President Kersti Kaljulaid on Friday, September 10, visited the Kenya Civil Registration service headquarters where she was accompanied by Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

    The Estonian President was taken through the Digitization of Interior services. Estonia is one of those countries with the most advanced technologies in the world.

    In a Joint Communiqué issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta applauded President Kaljulaid for being the first female President of Estonia.

    He also congratulated President Kaljulaid on being appointed the UN Global Advocate for Every Woman and Every Child and expressed appreciation to her for choosing Kenya for the maiden visit to the continent.

    The two Heads of State reiterated their commitment to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors such as trade and investment, digital transformation with a view to spur economic growth to create employment for Kenya’s youth.

    President Kersti Kaljulaid praised Kenya for her commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability and promoting the integration and economic development of the African continent.
