Murang’a Governor, Mwangi wa Iria Facebook
Murang’a Governor, Mwangi wa Iria was on Wednesday grilled over the purchase of a controversial 10-acre piece of land worth Ksh390 million.
The incident was confirmed by central region EACC manager Charles Rasugu as Daily Nation reports.
On Friday, the governor appeared before the County Public Accounts and Investments committee chaired by Homabay senator, Moses Kajwang to answer to queries raised in 2017/2018 financial year by the Auditor General.
When asked why the milk plant in Murang’a had stalled, the governor was hard pressed to answer leading to a back and forth between him and senator Irungu Kang’ata.
Kang’ata had alleged that workers had also not been paid.
The governor later accused committee members of trying to pin down governors regarding the issues raised by the auditor general to get ahead politically.
“Some of us governors become very frustrated when you become overly active and enthusiastic when you are grilling a governor and you do not do the same when we raise real devolution issues,” the governor stated.
Wa Iria stated that what the senator had started was cheap politics and advised him to shun away from such.
“You cannot come here and pretend to speak on behalf of those people without evidence of them not being paid. Produce documents because I will not allow you to bring cheap politics on the milk issue,” he cited.
