  • Jesus is Alive Ministries (JIAM) Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, was besides herself on Sunday, December 6, after Deputy President William Ruto visited her church.

Speaking from the temporary JIAM sanctuary along Haile Selassie Avenue, the Bishop informed the congregation that DP Ruto who was the Chief Guest for a fundraiser at the church, had offered to spearhead her multi-million Glory Twin Towers project that has stalled for years.

“The 5th president of the Republic of Kenya is seated among us, Dr William Ruto. I told him I have always dreamt of the towers. However, after stalling for years on kickstarting the project, the DP postponing came to me and said, ‘why don’t we do it now’? He then asked that I organise a fundraiser and that he would take it from there,” she stated.

The towers will be built on opposite sides of Haile Selassie Avenue, connected by a bridge. Bishop Wanjiru’s grand project has been on the pipeline for close to a decade.

She informed the church that she had to keep on postponing the project, as she never had all the resources needed to embark on the construction.

However, she was happy to now inform the public that the country’ second in command would be the chief guest for the ground breaking ceremony after the church service.

The 12-storey building will comprise a five-star hotel, conference room, banking hall, supermarket, office space and basement parking among other features.

Kenyan churches are increasingly turning to property development, as they seek to grab a share of the country’s real estate billions.

CITAM embarked on constructing a Ksh7 billion “gated community of believers†on a 72.5 acres piece of land in Karen.

The housing project dubbed La Nyavu Gardens was launched in May last year and was set to have 130 housing units. The project was reportedly delayed after some members moved to court.

In 2007, the PCEA Foundation reportedly acquired a Beach Hotel in the north coast and turned it into a popular venue for weddings. The church reportedly also owns several lodges and conventional centres around the country.

Kenyan churches have a lot of financial muscle that enables them to buy huge parcels of land at once and embark on real estate projects within the capital city.
