Barasa was addressing mourners when he alleged that the County Government has been embezzling funds and referred to governor Wangamati as a thief.
“I want to tell the people of Bungoma that the biggest mistake we did was to elect governor Wangamati in that position,” Barasa stated.
“I have seen an MCA come to the podium and lie to the Bungoma people that the ECD centre in Kitai was built by the county government but I want to tell you that it is Holland foundation that built it,” he added.
Didmus vowed that he would not allow lawmakers to lie about their achievements to the residents of Bungoma.
His sentiments triggered anger from one of Wangamati’s aide who was part of the mourners.
He walked up to the podium and snatched the microphone from the lawmaker. Further, he put his hands around Barasa’s neck prompting some of the mourners to come to his aide.
The mourners descended on him with kicks and blows, causing a fracas at the funeral.
Didmus could be heard trying to calm the mourners and directed that he be taken taken to a police station.
“He should take him to the police station or the mourners will drag him there,” Barasa is heard saying.
Reports indicate that Didmus, who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, is eyeing the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections.
