Local residents flock the scene of the collapsed building in Kakamega Daily Nation

Deaths have been reported after a two-storey building under construction collapsed at Butali market in Kakamega.
Speaking to kenyagist.com, Pastor Pascaliah Williams – who runs a church in the area under the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness, confirmed that 2 people had died, adding that several were still trapped beneath the rubble.
Local residents flocked the area to try and rescue those still trapped under the building.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Martin Bulimu a local correspondent claimed that the quality of sand used was being blamed for the untimely collapse.
Kakamega Deputy Governor, Philip Kutima assured the residents that the local government was in control, adding that rescue operations were underway.
