  • The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned five top Wiper officials over allegations of submitting false documents to justify a change in the party lists to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Among the officials summoned include the party chairman Chirau Ali Mwakwere, Secretary-General Shakilla Abdalla and Agatha Solitei, chairperson of the party’s elections board. Others are Roy Ombasa, the party’s head of ICT, and Abdulla Gakurya.

Reports indicate that the party had submitted Abubakar Ahmed Talib as the party’s nominee to parliament. However, in its revised changes, the party replaced him in favour of Lucas Mulinge Wambua.

Talib however, disputed the changes, filing a complaint with the police that his name was illegally struck off the list by false affidavits being presented to justify the changes.

The DCI has since summoned the top officials after questions were raised on the eligibility of Wambua to represent the category of ethnic minority in Parliament.

DCI officers privy to the matter are investigating the possibility of false swearing involving party officials- an offence that is contrary to Section 114 of the penal code.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Abdalla declined to comment on the matter as it is in court. She added that the party lawyers are best suited to speak on the issue.

“Such matters which are before court are taken up by the party lawyers, so I’m not in a position to give you an update. Our lawyers can give you the progress of the matter,” she stated.

Stephen Ole Tanki, the DCI officer in charge of the Kilimani division, noted that those officials who don’t honour the summons face arrest.

Talib contested the party changes at the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) and later in court. He read mischief in the matter- directing the DCI to probe the matter.
