While confirming the incident, Kirinyaga County Fire Department Director John Kiama, narrated that he was informed of the incident at around 9 am on Thursday, July 8 and that his team rushed to the scene to save the innocent soul.
However, the mother of the baby is yet to be known.
“Many families are breaking up for lack of a baby boy when others are throwing them in toilets and rivers,” stated Kiama.
According to him, after the baby was dumped into the pit, the suspect threw pieces of cut banana trunks into the same pit intending to kill the baby.
“When a worker went to the toilet, she heard a baby crying and without hesitation informed the owner of the farm identified as Njue and when he confirmed that there was a baby in the pit, he informed us of the incident without any hesitation,†Kiama further stated.
Once at the scene of the incident, Kiama said his team first got rid of the concrete floor which was covering the pit before the rescue mission commenced.
Currently, the newborn is receiving treatment at the Kerugoya Level 4 hospital.
While confirming the incident, Kirinyaga Central Subcounty Police Commander Johnstone Mwarigha said a manhunt to find the heartless suspect has been launched, and once arrested, she will face the full force of the law.
Kiama and his team were racing against time and managed to complete the rescue mission in 30 minutes.
This incident comes after another infant from Kîandaî Village in Gîchûgû Constituency disappeared mysteriously a few days ago. With Kirinyaga East Police Commander Antony Mbogo saying that investigations are is still going on and they will give more information once they get to the bottom of the matter.
