  • Comedian and content creator Eric Omondi opened up about his arrest by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the ensuing drama.

Speaking on Saturday, March 13, Omondi said that it was his first time he was finding himself on the wrong side of the law having been raised by a disciplinarian father.Ā

The comedian went on to give a little history about his father who died from a heart attack many years ago, when he was still a kid.

Ć¢ā‚¬Å“People are saying I was arrested, but I would describe that as an ambush, there is a difference,Ć¢ā‚¬ he stated, adding that he saw the police convoy from a distance since the house he shoots in is in a clearing in Kiambu, and the view is very expansive.

Ć¢ā‚¬Å“I saw four cars speeding and leaving a cloud of dust, so I wondered where they might have been headed to, but then got back to the house,Ć¢ā‚¬ he said.

Within one and a half minutes after spotting the vehicles, they came to a screeching halt inside Eric’s compound.

The detectives introduced themselves, ordered everyone out of the house and confiscated everyoneĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢s phones.Ā

Ć¢ā‚¬Å“It looked like a movie. I have never been arrested before, so it hit me on that day. I have never been on the wrong side of the law, possibly because my dad was a chief inspector and OCS in Kisumu, but for the first three minutes I had panicked,Ć¢ā‚¬ the comedian recalled.

After being bundled into the police vehicles, Eric broke the tension with the officers on the way to Central Police Station in Nairobi by engaging them in conversation and cracking jokes.

One of the police officers let it slip that they had anticipated a showdown with the comedian, but were surprised that he (Eric) did not resist the arrest.

Ć¢ā‚¬Å“That operation was very short and precise. The moment the officers introduced themselves, I asked them what they wanted, and they said they wanted everyone and their phones. It took 5 minutes or less,Ć¢ā‚¬ he recalled.Ā

The comedian was supposed to face charges over alleged production of explicit content not authorised by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), but the two parties have since agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

Media personalities Felix Odiwuor popular known as JalangĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢o and Daniel Ndambuki alias Churchill have been nominated to mediate the standoff between comedian Eric Omondi and the government.

Ć¢ā‚¬Å“Eric has agreed to our conditions for an out-of-court settlement. He has agreed to take down all explicit content from his social media platforms. I have appointed a mediation committee led by JalangĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢o, Churchill, and other top artistes to meet the KFCB team and DCI on Monday,Ć¢ā‚¬ said Mutua, in a statement on his social media pages.
