CS Owalo Reveals Amount Ruto's Cabinet Contributed for Magoha Funeral

-

  • Cabinet Secretaries serving in President William Ruto’s government honoured their pledge to the family of former Education Cabinet Secretary, the late Professor George Magoha after contributing a cumulative Ksh1.2 million.

Speaking at the family’s residence in Lavington, on Monday, January 6, Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo disclosed that the money was a contribution from the Cabinet Secretaries’ own pockets.

According to the ICT CS, the government had lived up to its promise assuring the family that it will airlift the body of the late CS for burial as earlier indicated.

“We did indicate that members of the current cabinet will contribute Ksh 1.2M. We have made that contribution and managed to bring to the family the amount,” he disclosed.

The CS further assured deceased’s family that the government will remain ready and available to support them over the remaining days of mourning and beyond.

“Food support to be delivered by the government is already on the ground.  We will also provide logistical support for the procession that will take place on Wednesday, February 8, in Nairobi,” the ICT boss added.

He was accompanied by Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo who revealed that the people of Gem were grateful to President Ruto for the support they received.

He also stated that they were still looking forward to any further intervention that may be availed by the state.

“We want to give Magoha a memorable and endearing sendoff that is reflective of the people of Gem who are indomitable in education,” Odhiambo indicated.

In the lead-up to the burial, a series of solemn funeral events have been planned to celebrate the life of the late academician.

On February 8, a farewell caravan will proceed from Lee Funeral Home passing through significant places that shaped Magoha’s life including the College of Health Sciences at the University of Nairobi and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Offices.

On February 9, a requiem mass will be held at the Consolata Shrine, Westlands, and on February 10, a procession and holy mass will take place at Township Primary School and St Mary’s Secondary School in Yala.

Magoha will then be buried at his home in Umiru Nyamninia, Yala, on February 11, 2023.
