kenyagist.com reliably learned that CS Kagwe plans to address the nation from Machakos County on Friday, May 22.
Speaking to kenyagist.com, the CS explained that this was the start of many decentralized briefings to come and that other counties would get the honour of hosting the daily updates.
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua speaking during a press briefing at his Athi River office, Mavoko, April 12, 2020.
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutual intimated that he was privileged to host CS Kagwe and his team.
“Machakos is the only county with a county hospital that has been approved to test Covid-19 because we have a state of the art pathology lab,” he praised.
Mutua has been instrumental in pushing for the approval of the testing facility.
“We are pleased to convey to you the approval of Machakos Level 5 Hospital laboratory as a testing site using the Nucleic Acid Amplification Test Platform for lower Eastern region of the country,” KMLTTB registrar, Mr. Abdulatiff Ali, stated in a letter addressed to Dr Ancent Kituku, the county health executive.
Many of the other approved testing centres are national government installations and, therefore, Machakos Level Five Hospital is special.
“He is interested in some of the things we have done in Machakos and to see how we are fighting Covid-19 so that we can also inform him further,” the governor explained on phone.
Talking about the status of 3 cases in the county, Mutua stated that they were recovering well and none of them was in critical care since they exhibited mild symptoms.
A majority of the cases in Kenya are less severe than in the US and Europe, as announced by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, May 21.
