She has been sent on an official trip by President Uhuru to hold Diplomacy talks with Tanzania’s leaders.
Addressing the press, President Suluhu acknowledged her presence and the relationship between the two countries.
“I have received official communication from Kenya led by CS Amina who has been sent by President Uhuru. He was recently in the country to condole with us following the loss of our beloved late president and felt that it was not enough hence he has sent an apology formally. We will hold talks concerning our nations among other issues. ”
“This is a confirmation that Kenya is ready to continue working with us, further enhance the relationship and collaborate in developing our nations,” she added.
She further added that there will engage in talks to strengthen the relations between the two countries.
CS Amina is a career diplomat who left a high-flying job at the UN to join President Uhuru’s first cabinet as Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary. She was later appointed as the sports Cabinet secretary. she has extensive experience in negotiating international treaties and is also a lawyer by training.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 20 made a special visit to the High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania in Nairobi’s Muthaiga estate to pay his respects to fallen President John Pombe Magufuli.
He encouraged President Samia Suluhu Hassan to stay strong during this hard time, stating that as leaders they should seek to continue with Magufuli’s legacy to enable citizens to attain development.
Kenya and Tanzania have often disagreed on various matters however, the love is not lost. The rapport between the two nations landed Kenya on UKs red list after Kenya failed to close the borders. The relationship has had its downs too.
The country also blocked Kenyan planes from landing at their airports. The row escalated when Kenya excluded Tanzanian nationals among travelers exempted from mandatory Covid-19 quarantine. This was during the reign of the late president John Magufuli.
