See below a summary of the top stories for Thursday, July 15.

Suspected killer Caroline Kangogo is reported to have reached out to the multi-agency team that is searching for her from her hideout.

She gave one condition that will make her turn herself in. She said that she does not want to be held in a police cell because she fears for her life due to the many extrajudicial killings in the country.

Meanwhile, LSK appointed veteran lawyer John Khaminwa to represent her in court and to also negotiate a bargain deal for her with the police. John Khaminwa said that he has already filed a suit to bar the state from detaining Kangogo when she turns herself in.

He also admitted that he does not know her personally and she has not reached out to him or his law firm directly, but he is willing to represent her if she cooperates with authorities.

    Billionaire Jimi Wanjigi Sued

Billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi has been trending after a story of a luxury boutique suing him over a Ksh1.3 million debt broke.

The shop sued the businessman for allegedly failing to pay for clothes he took from the shop back in 2019.

Wanjigi responded by going to the high court and filing a case against Fazal The Luxury Boutique, claiming that the allegations are based on hearsay.

    Kiambaa By-Election

Kiambaa residents went to the ballot today, Thursday, July 15 to elect their next Member of Parliament (MP).

Jubilee Party has presented Kariri Njama as their candidate while UDA, a party associated with the Deputy President William Ruto, has presented John Njuguna.

Rigorous campaigns have been witnessed by the two parties following the death of Paul Koinange in March.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) indicated that there are more than 96,000 registered voters in the constituency.

    School Fees Pain

Parents have only nine days to come up with school fees for a new term as students break for a short holiday today.

Many have complained that the ministry of education did not consider the economic situation in the country while setting the new academic calendar that has squeezed 8 school terms in two years, and it will be a painstaking task for them to come up with school fees for all of those terms given the short breaks between them.

The ministry had reduced school fees for high schools but most parents say that the timelines to come up with the money has made the fee reduction almost useless.

Headteachers have also protested the move to reduce school fees arguing that they owe suppliers a lot of money and reducing fees is going to put a financial strain on schools.

    Tourism CS Addresses Rumours

Tourism CS Najib Balala put out a statement denying a report by the Standard that claimed that he was resigning to run for senator in Mombasa.

In his statement, he stated that he was not vying for any elective seat next year and that he had no plans of resigning.

That report by the Standard also listed other Cabinet Secretaries who are considering resigning to run for various elective posts in the next general elections.

It alleged that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, John Munyes  (Mining and Petroleum), Peter Munya (Agriculture), Sicily Kariuki (Water and Sanitation), Charles Keter (Energy), Mutahi Kagwe (Health), Simon Chelugui (Labour) and Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution) are all considering resignation to vie for governor in their home counties.
